To mark Fairtrade Fortnight and as we begin preparations for Lent and the lead up to Easter the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh have a number of Easter Eggs to give away, kindly donated by the Meaningful Chocolate Company. To help us decide who to give them to, we would like to hear from children and young people in the archdiocese about what Easter means to them.

We invite children’s liturgy groups, youth groups & families in parishes to produce a sentence telling us what Easter means to them. The best sentence will receive a Fairtrade Sharing box from the Meaningful Chocolate Company containing 20 mini eggs and booklets telling the story of the First Easter and the resurrection of Jesus.
The best runner up will receive a large Easter egg and chocolate bar for the group to share, or give to their parish priest!

Competition entries must be in by Monday 17 th March, and prize winners will be informed before Friday 28 th March.

Send entries, with your contact details to: Miriam McHardy, Justice & Peace coordinator, Gillis Centre, Strathearn Road, Edinburgh, EH9 1BB
Miriam.mchardy@staned.org.uk

THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

The Primary 3 children of our parish will make their First Reconciliation on Sat. 15th March 2014 at 11.00am in the church. Let’s keep them in our prayers so that through this sacramental experience of God’s mercy and forgiveness they will come to love God even more and be happy with the gift of grace in their hearts

Remembering Service

There will be a  Remembering Service in St John’s at 5.00pm on Sunday, 23rd February 2014. The service is for those who have suffered the death of a child from the beginning of pregnancy onwards, whether recently or at an earlier time.  It provides an opportunity to participate in a formal acknowledgement of their grief. Those who wish to come in love and support are also most welcome.  It is hoped that representatives from organisations that provide counselling for stillbirths, miscarriages, and abortions will be present and available after the service.

Please come for a cup of tea/coffee, chat and leisurely look. For further information call 337 1385.

PrayerNET forthcoming workshops

Subject: PrayerNET forthcoming workshops

Dear Fathers and Friends,

I am sending you an invitation for those who are interested in joining out newly formed PrayerNET in the archdiocese.

This is a network of people in our Archdiocese who are leading others in experiences of prayer in their parishes.

They originally gathered to complete the YOUCAN course last year.

There are three meetings of the PrayerNET planned so far and these meetings will concentrate more fully on the section on Prayer in YOUCAT – The Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church.

If you are interested please register immediately to become part of the PrayerNET, this will be of benefit as you will be given regular resources to use.

The first meetings of PrayerNET will take place on the 27th February at 7pm here in Gillis with the focus being THE GIFT OF GOD’S PRESENCE.

The next meeting of PrayerNET will be on the 8th May at 7pm with the focus on THE SOURCES OF PRAYER.

The following meeting will take place on the 12th June at 7pm with a focus on THE WAY OF PRAYER.

Please advertise this in your parishes and other communities you work with.

Best wishes and many thanks,

Patricia

Ecumenical Lent Discussion Groups

Application forms will be available again today after Mass. An opportunity to talk with fellow Christians about Parables and Possessions – economics and a right relationship with money.

But this is your last opportunity – application forms have to be submitted by Friday 21st February.

As Pope Francis said in his recent Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium “How can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses two points? Not to share one’s wealth with the poor is to steal from them and take away their livelihood. It is not our own goods which we hold, but theirs”.

Application forms can also be obtained by emailing lentgroups@gmail.com and the discussion papers downloaded from www.ctbi.org.uk/lent .
