Appeal by SCIAF

Appeal by SCIAF: While we were enjoying summer holidays or getting children ready for school, millions of people were going dangerously hungry after a drought in Southern Africa. For every pound raised by SCIAF for the people of Malawi, the government will match it up to £70,000. For information see http://www.sciaf.org.uk

Church Cleaning

Cleaning Up

Cleaning Up

Church Cleaning: The date of the annual BIG CLEAN of the church and parish rooms has been set for the weekend of 19th and 20th November 2016. Please note this date in your diary. Sign up sheets for volunteers will be placed at the back of the church towards the end of October.

Next Sunday

At Mass next Sunday we will be welcoming all of our P3 children, together with their parents and families, for the Rite of the Signing of the Cross. And then, at the 12noon Mass at the Cathedral we will be having the Rite of Accpetance for those who are beginning their RCIA journey towards acceptance in the Church at Easter. Please keep them all in your prayers.

Mary’s Meals “Rags to Riches Collection” on 3rd/4th December

This is advance notice that the Cathedral will, once again, be organising a collection of unwanted clothing, curtains, bedding, shoes, bags and belts in aid of the charity Mary’s Meals, which as you know feeds and educates some of the poorest children in the world at all. Apparently as little as three bags of good quality second hand clothes can generate enough money to feed a child in school for a year. This year’s collection will be during the weekend of 3rd/4th December. I will give you more details and exact instructions nearer the time – but if you want to help you can start looking though your wardribes for those good quality clothes that no longer fit or that you haven’t looked at for years and might be able to bear parting with!!

Legion of Mary

legionofmaryemblem

As you know, we have a very active Legion of Mary in the Cathedral parish, and one of the things the Legion does is to visit the sick and the housebound. This is a valuable apostolate because many people in Edinburgh suffer from social isolation. If you know of anyone who might benefit from a visit from the Legion volunteers – or indeed if you would like a visit– just call Ian Ferri on 337 2653.

Are You Interested in Becoming a Catholic?

If you are not a Catholic and would like to know more about the faith why not think about coming along to our RCIA group which starts this Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Cathedral parish rooms at 63 York Place? The meetings are informal and very friendly and by coming along you are not committing to anything. All non-Catholics are welcome. If you are interested, contact Christine Burns at christineburns@hotmail.co.uk or just come along on Tuesday.
