Proposals for New Road Layout Outside the Cathedral

The way to express your opinions about the future of Picardy Place is now through the so called “Consultation Hub” which is online. The campaign closes on 15 December, parishioners need to write to re-assert our central concerns, namely assurance that funeral and wedding corteges have access to the Cathedral steps and, perhaps more importantly, a commitment that sufficient disabled parking spaces be provided around the Cathedral. There is a new threat in the form of a proposed taxi rank in Little King Street people can lodge a fresh complaint about. The cycling and taxi rank lobbies are very vocal and we should be too. You can find the proposed road layout, the address for the consultation hub and the addresses of Lesley MacInnes and the Councillors on the Transport and Environment Committee at our website address which is www.stmaryscatheral.co.uk/planning.

Caroline Reid joins the mass Sleep out In the Park – Saturday, 9th December

Caroline, our finance officer, has signed up for “a mass sleep out in Princes Street Gardens to end homelessness for good.” She would like to thank everyone who has sponsored her already, but if anyone else would like to, either fill in a sponsor form at the back of the church or in the parish rooms after mass or visit her sponsorship page (http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/caroline-reid-). Thank you!

Christmas Boxes for the Homeless

Shoe Box

Shoe Box

Maureen McGregor is once again appealing for packed Christmas shoe boxes to be given to the young homeless in Edinburgh. The Boxes, which have to be handed in by Sunday 10th December, are for many the only gift they receive and many shed tears of gratitude on receiving them Christmas Day. The boxes wrapped with Christmas paper, lid and box separately, should be suitable for young persons 16 to 25 years old and should be marked for male or female. Please do not include razors, aerosols or money. Warm gloves, socks, soap, toothbrushes, combs, deodorant, notebooks, pens, crosswords, hand cream, plasters and chocolate are all very welcome. A list will be available at the back of church. Call Maureen: 0131 3376346; Mobile:07720783442, or email: mcgregor885@btinternet.com.
