Marian Movement of Priests

Fr Donal McIlraith, an Irish Columban priest currently working in Fiji, will lead a Cenacle and speak on the Marian Movement of Priests in the Cathedral Café at 10.30am Mass on Saturday 2nd March. The Marian Movement was begun in Fatima in 1972. It invites people to pray for priests at this time of crisis and calls for entrustment to Mary and love for the Pope.

Thank You from Bethany Christian Trust

“Thank you very much for your extremely kind donations of £1,358.06 from St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral and £758.17 from St Andrew’s, Ravelston towards the work of the Bethany Care Shelter this winter. This tremendous generosity from your Church will help Bethany to continue to run the vital and potentially lifesaving Care Shelter which provides a hot meal, overnight accommodation, friendship and advice every night for many homeless men and women in Edinburgh.”

Lost Property

Several hats, scarves & gloves have been left in the church over the Christmas period. These have been on display beside St Andrew for the whole of January. Kindly note that any unclaimed items will be handed into a charity shop in a few weeks’ time. Last chance to collect!

A Remembering Service

For those who have suffered the loss of a child, from the beginning of pregnancy onwards, together with those who wish to come in love and support, to have time in quiet surroundings to fully recognise their loss and help with healing. Ecumenical and open to all. Sunday 17th February 2019, 5pm, St John the Baptist RC Church, Corstorphine.

Have you been Confirmed?

For many and various reasons, sometimes people never actually get confirmed. If you are an adult who has never been confirmed, the Cathedral will be running a course for you during Lent this year with a view to Confirmation at the Easter Vigil on 20th April. Meetings will take place on Monday nights at 7pm in the Cathedral House. If you would like to know more or register for the course, please e-mail Sr. Mary Simone: cathedralhouse.

Young Adults Group

This week, we welcome the Missionaries of Charity who will speak to us about their foundress, St Teresa of Calcutta. The talk will begin, as always, at 7pm and be followed by discussion, night prayer and a trip to the pub. All young adults, aged 18-35, are very welcome.

Childrens Catechists Needed

We need new catechists to join our Childrens classes in early September. Classes take place in this church 9:30-10:10am on Sunday mornings during school term. The more volunteers we have; the easier it is to job-share. As this role involves working with our P1-P7 children, who are at a vulnerable age, applicants will need to receive regulatory safeguarding (PVG) approval in advance of taking up the position. Therefore, we are seeking commitment now so that the safeguarding process can be completed with no last-minute rush. If you could help, please speak to Fr Jamie or Mary Buchan before or after mass. Thank you – we would love to hear from you!

Safeguard Training

It is important that everyone in a position that requires a PVG also goes through level 1 training before they can help out in the parish. At present our audit indicates that we have at least 10 parishioners that need level 1 training. I will run a session in the parish rooms on Thursday Feb 19th starting at 6.45 pm and the session will last a maximum of 2 hours. It would really help our audit if most people on our waiting list were trained so I can return a better percentage completion for the parish. Can you please email Chris McCabe (k.carter) or phone (07414 751705) to book a place? I will give priority to our parishioners. Many thanks for your help, Chris McCabe.
