Archdiocesan Lourdes Day 2019

The annual Archdiocesan Lourdes Day will take place on Sunday 26 May at the Gillis Centre between 3pm and 5pm. The event aims to recreate the spirit of Lourdes within the Archdiocese and will consist of a Marian procession, Solemn Benediction and the Blessing of the Sick.

“Faith Summertime”

Forms are now available for the annual Summer Camp at Ampleforth Abbey for 9-15-year olds. It takes place from 16-19 July and promises to be a great few days of fun as well as learning more about the faith. Please speak to Fr Patrick or Fr Jamie for more details.

Young Adult’s Group – Tuesday at 7pm

By popular request, the theme for this mini-series of talks with the Young Adult’s Group (age 18-35) is “discernment.” This week we are very happy to welcome Alexis & Anne-Luce de Labarthe, who are parishioners here at the Cathedral. There will be tea, coffee and cake (it’s Easter!) at 6.45, with the talk beginning at 7pm. We will meet in the Cathedral Café and we look forward to seeing all of you there!

A Lunch with Barbara Dickson at the New Club

On the 30th September at 12.30pm in this unique setting hear guest speaker Barbara talking about her life in music (this is not a concert as stated in the previous newsletter). Tickets £45 from Oliver Cookson, Valerie Ball or the Cathedral Office. Numbers are limited to 45, so first come, first served!

40 Hours

Please remember that the “40 Hours” at the Cathedral will take place this year on 10th-12th June. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed all day for adoration and each day will finish with a Holy Hour and Benediction at 7pm. We need to have at least two people to watch with the Blessed Sacrament at all times – so please think about when you might be able to spend some time with the Lord and sign up on the sheets at the back.

Bacon Rolls Morning – After Mass Today

After today’s Mass, Robbie Clarke, Mairi-Angela Foster and Kate Jones are organising a bacon rolls morning (vegetarian option available) to raise money for the AHC Foundation (Alternative Hemiplegia of Childhood). In our parish community we have a child, Anya Behl, who has this illness. We hope you will come along and support this initiative.

Daily Mass

From this week onwards, there will be Mass every day here in Ravelston at 9.30am. This is a big change for us and a big commitment to Ravelston. And conversely, it is a great opportunity for the people of this parish to deepen and grow in the love of Jesus. If you are not working, or if you have days when you are free, please think about committing some time to the Lord and coming to daily Mass.

Meeting About Sunday Parking Charges – Today at 2.30pm

Two years ago, you may remember, Edinburgh City Council put forward proposals to introduce all day parking restrictions on Sundays in the city center. Such proposal would have had a disastrous impact on City Center Churches and so all the Churches got together and successfully campaigned to get the proposals dropped. Unfortunately, the Council has now re-introduced proposals for Sunday parking charges and restrictions. A meeting has been called of all the city center churches to discuss this issue and address what action needs to be taken by the churches working together. The meeting will take place at the Lauriston Hall at 2.30pm on Sunday 12th May. Please think about going to this meeting.  For more information on this or on what you can do, please contact Alan Cran: info@averon.biz
